Stirling fought a long race only to have to retire with a bad wheel bearing and then be informed of the tragic death of fellow racer Wolfgang Von Trips.

The Italian Grand Prix in 1961 was marked by one of the most terrible accidents in the history of Formula One, when on the end of lap 2 at the approach to the Parabolica the German driver Wolfgang Von Trips lost control of his Ferrari and crashed against a stand full of spectators, killing 14 and dying himself. The race was not stopped, allegedly to assist the rescue work for the injured.

Purists will note that the Lotus that Sterling was driving in this race was really black. Sorry, but I did not find this out until the painting was done. In my defense I can't really see Sterling drive any Lotus that was not English Racing Green. :-)

My wrestling with landscape painting.

I love landscape paintings but I’ve got this huge fear of doing badly. So to try and break this fear I started on the Birches painting.

Mary, my wife, loves the birches at the cabin at twilight. So I’m trying to capture that feeling and the colours.

The painting is rather large but I like to work big and get a kick out of covering alllll that blank wall with a large piece of art work.

So I walked in the studio yesterday morning and saw that I had gone way toooo dark with the painting. So back to the pallet where I fixed up some lighter purples and redid the background and the sky. Well this took about 5 hours to rescue this one. I think I have the background where I want it and now I have to work the birch trees to get them right.

Ah more squinting and research on line and in my art books to see how all the others have handled this issue.

Here it is so far. BTW if you click on any of my artwork pictured below they will go to a full size view and you can even save them and print them out if you wish. I will still retain any copyrights, since this will have to make me some money soon. :-)

What the heck have I been doing for a week and a half?

Well I thought that I could do more painting work in Ohio but .... it seems that my niece got strep throat and that was that for a couple of days. Then I drove home 5 hours and collapsed for the weekend. Getting up at 6 AM and dealing with teenagers is a lot harder than I remember.

But I did get this far on my second car painting. Still does not seem right so I have put it to the side till I can get an idea on what to do with it. Once again Sterling Moss only this time driving a Maserati 250F in Belgium.
 

So after that I got my dark room together and worked on getting things going. Had some fun but no success I want to share yet. So I started to finish off my Birches Painting. Its about 44 by 35 inches and here is a starting picture.

After working on it on and off all day. I took this picture but the flash overwhelms it a bit. I will take a better picture with the sun tomorrow and post.

Here are the 8 6X6 pieces of art that I have handed in. This should be a fun show.

This is the first time that I have used acrylic paint since high school. Drys realllllllll quick and I had to learn some new tricks but I got better with time. Now to move up in size.

Ashville NC

Ok so I'm going to run some more of the my Street Art Series. Some of the photos are from Rochester and some are from Ashville NC. I have been trying to create images that have a solid composition from whats just under my feet.

While walking the dog I have had to spend a lot of time just standing around waiting while he sniffs everything under the sun. So one day I looked down and started seeing some very interesting things. So I started taking my camera out on the dog walks. I will start putting some of these shots up to see what folks say.

Growing up I wanted to be an artist.

Unfortunately for those dreams, life had a different path for me.

I worked hard to get to College and studied Fine Art. While there I found out about Computer Graphics and the attempt to be practical lead me to get dual majors of Fine Arts and Computer Graphics Software Engineering .

33 years later and after 25 years in the very non-creative side of Computer Engineering, I finally came to my senses. I will now pursue my real dreams, and and feed my inner bank account and not work just to make a buck to feed my Middle Class status.
